Our Company History & Mission Statement
When my father got out of the army as a young man he went to work as a route man for a large vending company in Chicago. He loved the job, and his customers loved him, calling him candy man and always loving to see his friendly, smiling face. But he moved on from that job to make more money and went to work as a truck driver delivering to the local quarry. With long days alone in that truck, it did not take long for him to realize that money was not everything. He missed his customers; he missed the different people he got to see every day. He missed the smiles and the laughter, the independence, and the personal sense of pride that came from doing your own thing. So, in 1962, with one cigarette machine in the corner of a bar on the southside of Chicago, he started Fox Vending. And the rest is history. Well, and her story.
Fast forward 38 years to the year 2000. Fresh out of college with a fine art degree from Columbia College I was working as a waitress and freelance graphic designer trying to figure out what direction I wanted to take my life. I loved the arts, but was not sure it was going to be the career I had imagined. When my father approached me with the idea of coming to work for the family business my first thought was, “no way.” But the closeness between us created a sense of obligation as well and I reluctantly said, “OK fine. I will give you six months. But NO hard feelings if I do not like it.”
That was 26 years ago.
The same thing that drew my dad back to vending is what kept me in it after my six month-long trial run: personal pride. The degree of satisfaction and personal pride I get from taking care of the vending, coffee, and market needs for a team like yours surpasses any other job I have ever had. I could not be prouder that Fox Vending is on the cusp of 64 years as a leader in the Chicagoland vending industry. And I could not be more aware that I was given the gift of an opportunity to lead this company into the new century. I attribute our longevity as much to my fathers’ business savvy as I do to my think outside of the box personality and way of getting things done. In 2010 my father turned the reigns over to me, giving me the proud title of President and majority owner. And I feel gratitude every day for the opportunity to take care of customers, just like you.
While of course my father and I have never agreed on everything, one thing we have always agreed on is this: if we do not take care of our customers, someone else will. So, while Fox Vending does not have a magic soda to sell you or a special kind of candy bar, we do have an exceptional kind of customer service that we believe is the best in the industry. We are incredibly proud to say that we have more than a handful of customers that have been with us for over 50 years, several of which were some of my father’s first customers.
